Johnny

Whipping up pasta in truffle oil with freshly shaved parmesan cheese just flown in from Italy, goddamned guilt sits on me so heavily it feels like it might crush my chest. She has absolutely no chance here—the meal served on my mother’s Italian Deruta settings, the wine...

I’ve made myself into one of the world’s greatest predators, and it isn’t fair. But it’s what needs to be done. And it is decision time. I either have to seduce her and keep her on a tight leash or threaten her into submission.

Submission.

The bulge in my jeans that’s been a regular occurrence for the past two days is fucking throbbing now. Stepping one leg out to the side, I try to give myself more room in my pants. Why is it whenever I think of Diana’s feisty spirit, all I want to do is take her to my bedroom and tame her...?

No. Like Vincent said, I have only two choices right now: threaten her or seduce her. And neither can be spontaneous. But hell, the latter sounds like a lot more fun...

But to seduce her, I have to trap her in my web and make her see the man I need her to see, nothing else. There’s no chance for anything real. She is a reporter, the worst possible woman for me to get mixed up with. And on top of it, she’s a tiger. I’ve seen how she goes after a story—how she went after me.

It has to be perfectly staged and choreographed, so why is there some part of me that wonders if she’d—we’d—be willing to give it all up for something real?

DING-DONG-DONG-DING!

She’s here. Adding one last sprinkle of cheese onto the bowl of pasta and wiping my hands on a dishtowel, I head to the door. I purposely had my security detail wait downstairs, so she wouldn’t think she was right about me. Which, of course, she is.

Standing at the door, I still have no idea what move I’m going to make—seduction or intimidation—but when I pull open the door to see her standing there in skinny jeans and heels, a fitted pink t-shirt, and a short brown leather jacket, staring up at me with those big, beautiful, brown eyes—I forget there was a decision to make.

She’s everything at once—adorable, beautiful, smart, and sexy-as-hell. But nothing I can have.

Thing is, she doesn’t look happy. And for this to work, she needs to want this.

“Diana. Thank you for coming.”

As I step to the side, she walks in.

“Can I take your bag?” I nod to the oversized brown leather bag she has hanging off her shoulder.

“Thanks.” She looks around, handing me her bag. “It smells great in here.”

“Hope pasta is okay?” I lay her bag on my antique bench in the hallway.

“Perfect, thanks.”

“How about a tour?”

Pressing her lips together, she suppresses a chuckle.

“What is it?”

“I think my entire apartment—with smoke alarms—would fit in your foyer.”

“I like your apartment.”

Gazing up at me, she gives me a heartfelt, “Thanks.”

“Come on.”

She holds up her finger. “Wait.
